What values do you have that you believe you carried into your brand and company?
Living a healthy lifestyle has always been a part of my life. Striving to be natural but staying practical by implementing small changes over time. This has applied to my goal to become more eco-conscious in life and in my business. Switching from plastic packaging to glass which can be recycled or reused. It is just one step that has been taken in creating a brand that is not only natural but also eco-conscious.
What inspired Simply Polished?
In 2015 I was following my passion for natural living and enrolled to become a holistic nutritionist. On day one of class, we quickly learned that the skin is our largest organ and that what we put onto our body is just as important as what we put into it. Soon after graduation, I took my newly acquired knowledge and my love of working with my hands and decided to make a few products. At first for my own personal use. I was so happy with the results that I started to give them away as gifts. By Christmas time I had over 10 orders and by February with the encouragement of my friends and family, I had decided to embark on my entrepreneurial adventure.
What’s your favourite part of creating your products?
Using all-natural ingredients and creating a product that has a positive effect on a customer is the mission behind Simply polished. Whether it’s helping someone sleep with a mist of magnesium spray or allowing extra time for a morning snooze with the shake of dry shampoo. Knowing that I have created an effective product is my favourite part of the creation process.
What has been your most exciting moment with Simply Polished so far?
In my first year in business, I was featured to be in a local magazine. I remember the excitement and validation that my brand was being recognized by people who I had no idea knew I existed. I have had many amazing moments throughout the years but that one stands out as the proudest.
What was your biggest hurdle in creating your own skincare line?
The biggest hurdle in creating my own skincare line is pushing past my own comfort zone. Every day I am presented with new challenges and opportunities some of which are beyond what I originally signed up for. But pushing past those helps you grown as a business owner and as a person.
What advice do you give to people wanting to start their own business?
When starting your own business it is important to remember that community is everything. Make an effort to network, send a message to that business owner you have been admiring on Instagram. Always remember there is room for all of us to grow together. We can learn a lot from each other if we are kind and support one another.
What is your favorite beauty ritual that leaves you looking and feeling naturally beautiful?
Washing off my makeup every night. This doesn’t seem like an obvious choice but it is the number one step in my skincare routine that has kept my skin looking youthful. The key is to wash off your makeup once you are in for the night, this way you do not wake up half asleep on the couch not caring if you get up in the morning with raccoon eyes.
We’re featuring Simply Polished’s Original Coffee Scrub in the Spring box. What prompted the creation of this product?
Living in Alberta where our climate is very dry a body scrub was on the top of my “must create list” When the opportunity to repurpose espresso grinds from Rosso a local coffee roaster presented itself the two aligned perfectly. I was thrilled to be able to take something that would normally be thrown out and make it into a product that people felt good using. The coffee scrub was the first product I created and to this day is one of my favourites.
