Summer is quickly approaching and you know what that means - warm weather and sunshine! Wearing a face full of makeup in humid hot air is definitely just as uncomfortable as it sounds. Less is more is the approach we want to go for this summer and It’s time to prep our skin for the sun-filled season, aka GLOW TIME! At Jiyubox we love embracing our skin’s natural glow and the key to getting that fresh glowy look is exfoliation!
One of the key ways of achieving glowy skin is exfoliation! Using a chemical or physical exfoliator will help buff away any dead skin cells sitting on the surface of your skin that can cause clogged pores and acne. By creating a smooth and soft surface, not only will makeup apply better but it will leave your skin with a beautifully fresh canvas.
When it comes to exfoliation, there are physical exfoliants and chemical exfoliants. Usually, when you think of exfoliation, physical exfoliants come to mind. The texture of physical exfoliants are oftentimes gritty and textured to really sloth off the dead skin cells sitting on the surface of your skin. However, although physical exfoliants may seem pretty straight forward, it can also be very abrasive to your skin and cause microtears if used improperly.
We recommend using physical exfoliants for your body instead of your face as it’s very delicate. One of our favourite body physical exfoliants is the Simply Polished Coffee Body Scrub.
Chemical exfoliation is much gentler on the skin as opposed to physical exfoliants - which, depending on the product, can be very abrasive on the skin. Chemical exfoliants come in two forms, Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) and Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA).
Alpha Hydroxy Acid
AHAs gently exfoliate the surface of the skin by “lifting” dead skin from your skin, revealing a brighter, plumper, and more even skin tone. AHA is derived from plant or milk extracts and is water-soluble. The most common AHAs are glycolic acid and lactic acid and should only be applied in the PM, followed with sunscreen in the morning.
