Lemon isn’t just good for making lemonade! We’re big fans of adding it to water for flavour or with honey to soothe a sore throat.
Lemon (and lemon rind extract) has benefits for your skin as well. That’s why we’ve incorporated a product with lemon into our upcoming Spring Box.
Lemon has alpha-hydroxy acid, a chemical exfoliant. You can read more about AHAs here. It also contains Vitamin C, a fave here at Jiyubox for brightening skin!
So what can lemon do for you? Here’s a few highlights:
Given its antifungal and antibacterial properties, lemon can help heal acne and reduce redness. The presence of Vitamin C helps with reducing the impact of free radicals (pollution or other externalities) and boost collagen levels. This contributes to brighter, healthier skin.
Note: this doesn’t mean you should apply undiluted lemon juice to your face! It has not been scientifically proven and could have effects like dryness or irritation (especially around the face). It’s far better mixed with other ingredients.
Reduce the appearance of dark spots or blemishes
We’ve all heard that lemon juice lightens hair, and the same goes for skin. It has been known (anecdotally) to help with healing of acne scars.
Healthline describes two methods for lightening these scars using lemon juice as an astringent or spot treatment. These results will vary so we recommend talking to a dermatologist first.
Lessen oily skin
Lemon juice has been used like a toner to reduce oiliness on skin, but moderation is key! Swipe fresh lemon juice on your skin before bed, and rinse off in the morning.
Stay tuned for a product with lemon rind extract in the Spring Box!
