Usually when someone is asked what they think is the key ingredient to healthy skin is, you’ll hear things like Vitamin C, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid. Though these ingredients have been taking over our beauty regimes, we often overlook one of the simplest ingredients that can drastically impact our skin - water! Here are some reasons why you should consider drinking more water as your long-term New Year resolution!
1. Improves Skin Complexion
One study done by the University of Missouri-Columbia discovered that drinking a minimum of two glasses of water a day can increase blood circulation which evens out your skin tone.
2. Reduces and Prevents Signs of Aging:
Drinking more water helps the skin appear more youthful since it preserves the bouncy appearance and even texture that people lose as time goes by. It may also reduce the appearance of current fine lines by improving the skin’s elasticity and moisture.
3. Helps Clear Skin of Acne
One of the best pieces of advice that is commonly discussed in the skincare industry is drinking enough water ⎼ and for a good reason too! Though it may sometimes seem like a broken record but drinking enough water will help control the excess oil and sebum secretion that leads to clogged pores. It also means that your digestive system will be readily able to flush out the toxins in your microbiome that cause acne.
4. Reduces Puffiness
When the skin is dehydrated, it holds on to the water leading to a puffy and swollen appearance. By drinking water, you can replenish your skin and reduce this puffy look!
5. Prevents Heat Related Skin Concerns
To prevent heat boils and rashes on the skin drinking ample amounts of water can keep your body feeling cool after a workout or a day in the sun. Though this does not mean to skip out on the SPF, drinking water can keep your body’s temperature at an ideal state.
Though keeping New year's resolutions can be tricky, incorporating eight glasses of water a day is one worth maintaining. From improving your skin complexion to anti-aging properties, water is a versatile (yet simple) way to enhance your glowy appearance.
